Prevention and Wellness Specialist (Grant)

Starting Pay: $19.87/hour. Additional compensation commensurate with experience.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, day shift occasional nights and weekend events.

Prevention & Specialist Wellness I:

  • Plans, implements, documents, and evaluates substance abuse and/or mental health promotion services for children, youth, parents and community members in partner agency and community settings to decrease substance abuse and other risky behaviors and strengthen protective factors.
  • Provides training and education through engaging presentations, public speaking, small group facilitation, and meetings with targeted populations, to promote the effectiveness of prevention concepts, best practices, and strategies to promote protective factors that reduce substance abuse and adverse childhood experiences.
  • Utilizes a variety of best practices, evidence-based programs, and other strategies in collaboration with multiple community partners and coalition members to develop and implement prevention plans to reduce substance abuse community-wide.

This position is Full Time and is grant-funded.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience: Minimum of one year of experience preferred in alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention/training, public health, or related field, including knowledge of the effects of substance abuse on children and youth, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and wellness.
  • Safe Driving Record: This position requires transporting clients or driving an agency vehicle. Candidates must have a valid Virginia driver's license with a safe driving record (no more than two moving violations in the last three years AND no criminal violations in the last five years).
  • Background Check: Candidates who are offered a position are required to undergo a background check and drug screen that meet requirements of local detention facilities.
  • Skills & Knowledge:
    • Skilled at developing rapport with other organizations and maintaining working relationships that support the implementation of Prevention and Wellness Services.
    • Public speaking, leadership, and group facilitation.
    • Have a clear understanding of professional boundaries and confidentiality when working with individuals and the professional staff in partner agencies.
    • Organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, multiple deadlines, and scheduling conflicts and the ability to implement numerous programs with different populations simultaneously.
    • Skill and ability to access and manage situations quickly and effectively with consumers, schools, and partner agency administrators and staff.
    • Knowledge and understanding of data collection, evaluation processes, and reporting outcomes.
    • Proficient computer skills in working in the Microsoft environment including Word, PowerPoint, Canva, Excel, Windows, Outlook and Google, as well as virtual platforms.
