Starting Pay: $22.09/hour, with scheduled increases. Additional compensation dependent on experience.

The Prevention Specialist
Plans, implements, documents, and evaluates substance abuse and/or mental health promotion strategies to impact community-level change in reducing substance abuse.
Provides leadership to the Roanoke Prevention Alliance
Brings in resources through grants
Promotes community recognition of the coalition mission
Provide expert consultation to community coalitions
Provide training and education to engage civic cooperation by writing reports, articles, position papers, conducting presentations, public speaking, small group facilitation, and meetings to targeted populations.
Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with multiple community and organizational partners.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in human services field
Experience: Experience in the following is a plus: prevention/education, community organizing/engagement, public health, prevention theory, or evidence-based prevention strategies.
Safe Driving Record: This position requires transporting clients or driving an agency vehicle. Candidates must have a valid driver's license with a safe driving record (no more than two moving violations in the last three years AND no criminal violations in the last five years).
Background Check: Candidates who are offered a position are required to undergo a background check and drug screen.
Skills and Knowledge
Community organizing and engagement
Excellent communication skills including verbal (i.e., public speaking, presentations, rapport building, diplomacy), non-verbal and written
Experience facilitating and leading teams and committees
Computer experience working in the Microsoft environment including Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel, Windows, Outlook, and Internet Explorer and management of website maintenance and social media platforms
Resource development
Grants management, including budgets and reporting
Awareness of effective behavioral health and wellness strategies and experience in leadership skills and a clear understanding of confidentiality and professional boundaries
Exceptional organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, multiple deadlines and scheduling conflicts, with attention to detail
Ability to work autonomously based on broad directions and objectives and make decisions without first consulting with a supervisor that are best for the coalition, community and BRBH
