Therapist, Co-Response Marcus Alert

Schedule: This position will include various shifts, including possible holidays, possible weekends, and a rotational on-call schedule with other team members.

Pay: Additional compensation commensurate with experience.

  • Master's Degree: $27/hour. Degree must be eligible to register as a Resident in Counseling or Supervisee in Social Work.
  • Licensed LPC or LCSW Pay: $33/hour.

WHAT IS MARCUS ALERT PROGRAM?

Marcus Alert enhances services for people experiencing a crisis related to mental health, substance use, or developmental disability. Marcus Alert creates coordination between 911 and regional crisis call centers and establishes a specialized behavioral health response from law enforcement when responding to a behavioral health situation. The Marcus Alert is named after Marcus-David Peters, a young, Black biology teacher; killed by Richmond police in 2018 amid a mental health crisis. The goal of the Marcus Alert is to provide a behavioral health response to behavioral health emergencies. The Co-Response Therapist partners with a law enforcement officer in the BRBH Catchment area to respond to public safety calls.

In a typical day, Co-Response Therapists:

  • Provide crisis intervention for clients, including those at high risk for suicide/homicide
  • Provide outreach and assessment
  • Link and coordinate with other service providers
  • Evaluate risk and potential need for treatment
  • Maintain records and reporting according to agency procedures
  • Interact with other professionals in the clients' interest
  • Develop relationships within local law enforcement partnerships.

Qualifications:

  • Education/Licensure/Certifications: This position requires a Master's degree that is eligible to register as a Resident in Counseling or a Supervisee in Social Work in Virginia. Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) will have a higher pay rate.
  • Experience in behavioral healthcare, criminal justice, or law enforcement is a plus!
  • Safe Driving Record: This position requires driving agency vehicles and transporting clients. Candidates must have a valid driver's license with a safe driving record (no more than two moving violations in the last three years AND no criminal violations in the last five years).
  • Background Check: Candidates who are offered a position are required to complete a background check and drug screen.
